Airlie Beach, Whitsundays. Queen Mary 2 complete with 2400 passengers stopped at Airlie Beach today. No stranger to cruise ship visits, Airlie Beach caters for cruise ship visitors with markets, volunteers and entertainers bolstering the other tropical features of the town. Over a 1000 visitors stepped off Queen Mary 2 to check out the Airlie Beach, the quaint main shop street and the famous Airlie Beach lagoon.

Meanwhile over 200 guests were traveling to the nearby outer Great Barrier Reef to seek the best snorkeling and diving conditions in the world.

The Queen Mary 2 has traveled from Japan and Rubal to makes it first Australian stopover at Airlie Beach. After a day visit to the area, she will proceed to New Zealand then on to Sydney. It should be kept in mind that Queen Mary 2 will only make three stops during her current pass of Australia and Airlie Beach is the first port of call. Sydney and Fremantle are the others. This is very significant and probably due to the efforts of Airlie Beach volunteers and cruise ship co-ordinators. Judi Dunn is the current co-ordinator and thanks to her and the efforts of her precedessors who lobby and service the cruise ship market.

On shore, visitors have been seen in droves snap happy, with one very happy young couple taking the opportunity to get some photos on the docks at Meridien Marinas Abel Point Marina.
