Airlie Beach Lagoon
1. Number one attraction in Airlie Beach
2. Lagoon style pool which has won many tourism awards.
3.The notorius salt water pool where some locals come to meet backpackers at night. See also "Gene Pool", "Wave Pool", "The Bank"

Backpacker
Frequent visitor to the Whitsundays, typically arriving by bus or Wicked Camper. Often found in the vacinity of Airlie Beach Lagoon, Beaches or Magnums. Easily identified due to crumpled clothes and wearing "turtle shell" style baggage. this life form is easy lured with offers of "free stuff" and beer by the jug. Responds favourably to questions about their direction of travel "North" or "South".

Chew the fat
1. To fix the world's problems, by merely talking about them.
2. Favourite pastime in Airlie Beach. Most often occurs over a beer.

Coral Beetles
Those beaut little cockroaches, given this endearing term to not startle the tourists, often  found on boats, charter boats, hotels, motels, and resorts, given the regions great humid weather a tricky little visitor to get rid of.

Coxswain
1. Commercially licensed operator of small craft
2. Only person allowed to stand in a dinghy loaded full of people

Dive Industry
Recently extinct in the Whitsundays. (See Cairns)

Dive Instructor
Fish like person with large watch. Typically found speaking favourably about themselves. Often renumerated in meals.

Dress Code
Formally bracketed loosely under "clothes". Now formalised into something similar to what those city folk wear when they come to town.

generic viagra
Some term that made its way in the dictionary because of robot spamming. Must be great stuff as we keep getting emails about it.

Heady
1. Sailing Term. The sail closest to the front of the boat.
2. A token jesture to show one's admiration for their partner.

Jubes
1. The community just past Airlie Beach when heading towards Shute Harbour. One of the 10 fastest growing suburbs in Queensland.
2. A place where residents are passionate about defending incorrect perceptions about their suburb.
3. Tavern located in the above area. Also referred to as "The Jubes."

Mucka
Local builder of questionable vintage noted for dry sense of wit and characteristic laugh

Prosvegas
1. State of the art, cosmopolitan town featuring strong community heart and numerous watering holes.
2. The seat of power for the local region
3. Often overlooked

Sausage Fest
Party or boat load of people exclusively represented by the male species.

Sepo
Derived term, fondly given to people from the USA.

Shaggers
( aka Paddy Shennagins )
1. Late night watering hole frequented by locals.
2. Essential part of Airlie Beach pub crawl
3. Overcrowded with Hens' parties on any given Saturday night.

Simon Latchford
( aka "Latchie" )
Mythical character credited with the creation of the overnight charter industry. Sighted frequently during the 90's, now believed extinct.

Speed limit
Non existent local traffic law designed to :
a)confound the unwary newcomer when overtaken by a school bus
b)provide revenue to mechanics for checking speedometers mistakenly believed to be incorrect  
c)allow Council to spend surplus budget funds on signs that no-one who has driven on Shute harbour Rd more than once will ever read

Strathdickie
A rural area behind Airlie Beach, thought of fondly by residents there! Apparently Strath means "BIG" in Scotland.........

Whitsunday Times
Scripture like weekly publications read cover to cover by every Whitsunday resident.
Also known for the creative spelling of many common terms.
