Hamilton Island, Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef: Less than 24 hours after an Irukandji marine sting, Ben Southall speaks with John Nayler from ChannelWhitsunday.com. Island caretaker and winner of the best job in the world, Ben is just finishing his 6 month contract which has taken him the full length of the Great Barrier Reef. Showing no ill effects from the stinger experience about 30 hours after, Ben was back on song speaking passionately about life as Island Caretaker. Responses to marine stings vary and are rare in the waters of the Whitsundays. Some people experience extreme pain describing it to be similar to child berth, while others have been known to check themselves from hospital after a couple hours to return to the party. Marine stings are easily avoided through use of "stinger suits" with incidents reported during the peak of summer.

No stranger to adventure, Ben tells his of his Afritrex adventure in 2008, which ended exactly in time for the best job in the world job campaign announcement. He speaks about goal setting as his main means of getting results in life, the glory of diving on the Great Barrier Reef and his new tenure as ambassador for Queensland. In Mid January, Ben jets off to the USA in his new role in the company of Queensland Premier Anna Bligh to begin a world wide tour to promote the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland.

Hamilton Island is located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia and is one of the 74 islands of the Whitsundays. The Whitsunday islands are a group of continental islands, inside the line of the reef and home of Whitehaven Beach, considered in the top 3 beaches in the world.
